Let Me Introduce Myself
Hello! I’m Dr. Janet J. Sawyer (Dr. JJ), and I am an experienced Educator, Leadership Coach, Accountability Partner and a Published Author. I am committed to changing the way people think about themselves and others by understanding the importance of becoming Self-Aware, Intentional and Mindful when leading their lives and others.
In January 2021, I was given the opportunity to become a Virtual CSU Adjunct Professor at Central State University, an Historic Black College and University (HBCU), in the same department I graduated from, the College of Education. Central State was a family tradition where my entire family attended. There’s even a dormitory in my uncle’s name, Harry G. Johns Living Learning Center.
The best part of this experience is I have the opportunity to provide guidance and support when teaching paraprofessionals working toward earning their degree in Education. This allows me to “Give Back” and continue my family legacy when teaching at the university we all love. I also get to enjoy teaching right here from my home…Carlsbad, California.
Throughout my career I have:
Once I retired, I worked for McREL, a nationally recognized education research company, for nine years. I was a Leadership Consultant supporting school leaders when learning and applying Marzano’s 21 Researched-Based Leadership Behaviors needed when leading others.
At this time, I am a Personality Styles Specialist, certified in the PeopleSmart DISC Interpretation Method and a Team member for peoplesmarteducation.com. My partner, Sandra Davis in New Zealand, and I consult with educators helping them understand their Four Personality Styles (Birds) in order to:
When working with educators I provide virtual online workshops called, “EDUCATORS Are Amazing…Even Us!” and “TEACHERS Are Amazing…That’s Us!” Sandra and I have published two books that support our work:
Become People-smart, is our favorite word – and know how to create a “PeopleSmart Culture” of your own. You will take these tools and learnings with you everywhere you go! DISC-literacy simply provides educators with the key to interpersonal communication and compassionate relationships. The conversations will be priceless!
In my personal life, in the publishing world, I have published:
When “Doing the Work” you will experience a Seven Step process for identifying your vision for your life. (Amazon)

My partner, Sandra Davis in New Zealand, and I consult with educators helping them understand their Four Personality Styles (Birds) in order to:
- Manage their own behavior to get the results you want.
- Improve their interpersonal relationships between parents, students and teachers.
- Understand how to apply what they learned when teaching their students, communicating effectively with parents, friends and even the family.
When working with educators I provide virtual online workshops called, “EDUCATORS Are Amazing…Even Us!” and “TEACHERS Are Amazing…That’s Us!” Sandra and I have published two books that support our work:
- EDUCATORS Are Amazing…Even Us!” is dedicated to Paraprofessionals, Teacher Aids and Parent Volunteers. They learn their Four Personality Styles (BIRDS) and learn how to identify the students they are working with in small groups. This allows them to adapt their style when working with each individual student.
- “TEACHERS Are Amazing…That’s Us!” Teachers learn about their Four Personality Styles (Birds) and learn how to differentiate their instruction when identifying their children’s styles using a Mini-Me Survey or a full student assessment.
Become People-smart, is our favorite word – and know how to create a “PeopleSmart Culture” of your own. You will take these tools and learnings with you everywhere you go!
